THE SOUND OF MUSIC
Monday, June 5th & Tuesday, June 6th, 2023
7:00 - 9:00 pm
Temple Beth Am, 1039 S. La Cienega Blvd, LA 90035
Open call. No appointment necessary.
Your audition will consist of three parts - see below.

Adults Audition Information (age 16 - 120!)

1. SONG

You should sing for no more than SIXTY SECONDS. We will stop you after one minute.

  • Choose a song that best shows off your voice.

  • Try to choose a song that is not too low or too high for your vocal range so that you sound your best.

  • Know the lyrics. It does not make a good impression if you arrive at your audition without a song prepared (this is a musical, after all!).

  • Sing with as much expression as possible and enjoy yourself!

  • Your song choice should NOT be from The Sound of Music, but it should be a song from the world of musical theater, not pop or rock. We highly recommend songs from other Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals.

Please note: Your audition song will be a capella. No accompanist or backing tracks will be used.

2. SCENE

Please choose one character in one scene to read at your audition. We don’t care if you trip over some of your words; just make sure you read with expression and character. The scene does not need to be memorized.

The scenes to choose from are:

1) Maria & the Captain

2) Elsa & Max

3) Leisl & Rolf

4) Maria & the Mother Abbess

5) Franz & Frau Schmidt

3. DANCE

The Sound of Music includes a few dance numbers.

Please learn the short dance audition in this video below and be prepared to dance it live with a small group at your audition.

Practice your dance with this track:

CALLBACKS: MONDAY, JUNE 12th

(for adults AND children):

If we would like to see you do more, you will receive an e-mail by the end of the week of auditions inviting you to participate in a Call-Back.

  • You will receive a specific appointment time

  • We will ask you to prepare a new scene.

  • We will also ask you to learn part of a song or songs from The Sound of Music, which you can find on YouTube or itunes.

  • Call-back materials do NOT need to be memorized.

  • Make sure to arrive at your callback prepared.

If you don’t get a callback, that does not necessarily mean you won’t be in the cast. It just means we saw everything we needed at your original audition.
