MATILDA WORMWOOD:

An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.

Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano

Singing: Many songs

Dialogue: A tremendous amount

MISS HONEY:

Matilda's kind-hearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull.

Vocal Range: Soprano

Singing: Many songs

Dialogue: A lot

Dancing: Not much, but does some ballroom dancing in "Loud."

MISS AGATHA TRUNCHBULL:

The tyrannical headmistess at Matilda's school who despises children. She used to be a hammer thrower in the Olympics.

Vocal Range: Alto

Singing: A lot

Dialogue: Quite a bit

Dancing: Not much, but there are calisthenics in "The Smell of Rebellion"

MR WORMWOOD:

Matilda's uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman.

Vocal Range: Baritone/Bass

Singing: Several songs

Dialogue: Quite a bit

Dancing: Not much

MRS WORMWOOD:

Matilda's self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer. Must be a very strong dancer.

Vocal Range: Soprano

Dialogue: Quite a bit

Dancing: Quite a bit, including ballroom dancing

MICHAEL WORMWOOD:

Matilda's older brother. He is not very bright and favored by their parents. 

Singing: None

Dialogue: Minimal, but must have excellent comic timing

Dancing: None

MRS PHELPS:

A kind librarian who loves to hear Matilda’s stories..

Singing: None

Dialogue: Quite a bit

BRUCE:

Matilda's classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull. Must be a strong dancer.

LAVENDER:

RUDOLPHO:

Mrs Wormwood’s ballroom dance instructor.

SERGEI:

The head of the Russian mafia.

Vocal Range: Bass

Singing: A bit

Dialogue: One large scene that includes several lines in Russian.

DOCTOR:

The OB-GYN who delivers Mailda.

Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone

Singing: One very big solo

Dialogue: One very important scene

ESCAPOLOGIST:

A character in the story that Matilda tells Mrs. Phelps … or is he?

ACROBAT:

A character in the story that Matilda tells Mrs Phelps ... or is she?

LITTLE KIDS ENSEMBLE:

Amanda, Nigel, Eric, Alice, Hortensia, Tommy. These are all dancing roles. Shorter than 5’3” preferred for these roles, but not necessary.

Dialogue: Some

Dancing: A lot
