We welcome women of all backgrounds, ethnicities, body types, or religions.

Ragtime will be portrayed true to the content and language of the time period in which the story takes place. We will portray all characters as they were written and will perform this show with integrity, sensitivity, and respect.

IMPORTANT DATES

Performances: December 4, 6 & 7, 2025
Mandatory Tech Week:
November 30 – December 3, 2025
Rehearsals begin on July 31, 2025

1. A SONG:

You should sing for no more than SIXTY SECONDS. We will stop you after one minute.

  • Choose a song that best shows off your voice.

  • Try to choose a song that is not too low or too high for your vocal range so that you sound your best.

  • Know the lyrics. It does not make a good impression if you arrive at your audition without a song prepared (this is a musical, after all!).

  • Sing with as much expression as possible; and enjoy yourself!

Please note:

  • Your song choice should not be from Ragtime, but it should be a song from the world of musical theater, not pop or rock.

  • Your audition song will be a capella. No accompanist will be provided.

YOUR AUDITION WILL CONSIST OF THREE PARTS

2. AN AUDITION SCENE:

Please choose one character in one scene to read at your audition. We don’t care if you trip over some of your words; just make sure you read with expression and character.  (See Character Breakdown for details on which scene to choose based on the character that you would like to audition for.)

The scenes to choose from are:

1) Coalhouse & Booker T Washington

2) Coalhouse & Sarah

3) Father & Younger Brother

4) Evelyn & Younger Brother

5) Mother & Little Boy

6) Tateh & Emma

7) Tateh & Little Girl

3. AN AUDITION DANCE:

Ragtime includes several large-scale dance numbers.

Please learn the short dance audition in this video and be prepared to dance it at your audition.
